You will be picked up from your hotel in Agra at 6am and leave for a sunrise tour of world famous Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture and is widely recognized as “the jewel of Muslim art in India”. It is one of the world’s most celebrated structures and a symbol of India’s rich history.
After at 11:30am, you will be transferred to Agra Fort, also a UNESCO Heritage Site, built from red sandstone by Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. The buildings inside reflect an interesting synthesis of Hindu and Central Asian architectural styles. The maze of the courtyards, mosques and private chambers of the fort echoes the story of the Mughal Empire.
At 1pm you will make a stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
Later, at 2:30pm continue your tour to Fatehpur Sikri, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is an hour away from Agra. It has been described as “the world’s most perfectly preserved ghost town”. Built by Akbar in the late 16th century, it was abandoned after only 14 years.
After you return to Agra at 6pm, enjoy some shopping. Agra is known for its fabulous handicraft. It’s major handicraft products beside inlay work are: brass-ware, carpets, jewellery, embroidery and leather accessories and clothes.
After this tour is over at 7:30pm you will be transferred either to Cantt railway station for your onward journey (AGC) or back to your hotel in Agra.
